Frequently asked

Questions people ask before getting in touch

If something you're wondering about isn't here, you're very welcome to ask. No question is too small or too awkward.

Is what I say really confidential?+

Yes. What you bring stays between us. There are three narrow legal exceptions I'd always try to discuss with you first: a serious risk to your life or someone else's, a safeguarding concern about a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order. I also discuss anonymised themes with my clinical supervisor — that is standard, required practice and your identity is never shared.

What actually happens in a first session?+

We spend fifty minutes talking about what's brought you here, what you'd like to be different, and any history that feels relevant. I'll ask some questions, explain how I work, and answer anything you want to ask me. You don't need to prepare, and you don't need to tell me everything at once.

What if I don't know how to explain what's wrong?+

That's one of the most common ways people arrive. "Something's off and I can't name it" is a perfectly good starting point — finding the words is part of the work, not a prerequisite for it.

How many sessions will I need?+

It varies. Some people come for six focused sessions; others work for a year or more. We review together, usually around session six, and you can end at any point. I'll never pressure you to continue.

In person or online — does it matter?+

Both work well. In-person sessions are held in Bloomsbury; online sessions use a secure video link sent after booking. If you're outside London, have limited mobility, or simply feel safer at home, online is a genuine equivalent rather than a compromise.

What is your cancellation policy?+

More than 48 hours' notice: rescheduled or refunded in full, no questions asked. Within 48 hours: the full session fee applies, because the time is reserved for you and can rarely be filled. If you're unwell, let me know and we'll usually move the session online instead.

Do you take insurance or work with employer schemes?+

I work privately and don't handle insurance claims. If your employer's scheme reimburses therapy, I can provide dated receipts for you to submit yourself.

How do I know you're properly qualified?+

I hold an MSc in Psychotherapy & Counselling and am a Registered Member of the BACP, which means I'm bound by their ethical framework and complaints procedure. My registration can be checked on the BACP public register, and my full training history is on the About page.

What if I need urgent help before my appointment?+

Therapy isn't a crisis service. If you need support right now, contact the Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24 hours), text SHOUT to 85258, call NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999.

Still deciding?

You can book a first session now, or send a short enquiry and I'll reply within two working days.
